Sun Catcher Milk Jug Bird Feeder

Another Snow day, Ugh! Today is Thursday, I haven't been outside of my home since SUNDAY. We would go out and play but it is just so bitter cold and the snow is not letting up. So, I have been spending a lot of time looking at blogs and other crafting sites and getting lots of inspiration and fun ideas to do with the kids. G- is all about the crafts. She goes to bed at night talking about what we are going to be making the following day. J- couldn't care less. He just wants to be in the middle of whatever is going on. In my lap while I sew or draw or cook. He is a Mama's boy. Sorry honey, he is. So yesterday we finished off the gallon of milk and Curious George had just been feeding birds so inspiration hit. We decided to make a bird feeder.

Materials:
Milk Jug (empty and clean)
1 wire hanger
wire cutters
multiple colors of Sharpies
scotch tape
black puff paint
utility knife
bird seed

First taped off the design we wanted with the scotch tape.
Next the kids colored in the empty spaces with the sharpies.

Remove the tape.

Outline the colored shapes with the black puff paint. This gives it almost a stained glass look. Let the paint dry.

We used a utility knife to cut 2 circles out of the jug for the birds to get in and out. Finally we snipped the bottom of our wire hanger and hooked it into our jug. We poked small holes in the bottom of our jug to let water drain out. I used the piece of wire hanger to poke the holes. The last step is to fill with bird seed, which I have none of @ this time. However, when I am able to get out of the house we will fill our bird feeder and hang outside for our lovely birdie friends. G- really enjoyed making this and couldn't wait to show it off to her Daddy when he got off of work.
